These djembes go far above the call of duty of any professional djembe.  These djembes are so exceptional that we call them "Jina" djembes.  "Jina" means "spirit".  I truly believe these drums are the best quality djembes available in the world currently.  What makes this site special is that you can pick any djembe on this site based on its picture alone and guarantee that it will be more amazing than you imagined when it arrives at your door. There are a lot of secrets that have gone into the creation of each shell.  The form of these shells are the accumulation of 3 years of research and experimentation towards the creation of the ideal djembe shell - in terms of both sound and beauty.  BTW, they are not created over night so please be patient in terms of production of new jina djembes.  This is why are moto is:  "Top of the line, One at a time."  We do not produce these drums for wholesale because this kind of quality cannot be made in quantity.  We take our time on each one.  We also pay all workers approximately 2 to 3 times the going rates to ensure fair trade values and quality :)  When you purchase a djembe from rootsyrecords.com you support 4 things:

1)  All of the cultural preservation and promotion work for traditional djembe drumming and dancing that rootsyrecords does in Mali.  This includes all the great free video footage offered up on rootsyrecords.com and youtube.

2)  Local artists.  I employ many local Malian craftsman to help me at every stage.  I pay workers 2 to 3 times the going rates in order to play a small role in helping alleviate poverty in Africa.  I also believe in karma.  The good you do in life always comes back to you.

3)  Helps support myself and my family here in Bamako, Mali so that I can continue to make great drums and do the things rootsyrecords does here in Mali.

All djembes are finished with hand made peanut oil.
